Diary of a Breast Reduction

Another trip into M & S – Bras – my worst nightmare! (and my Mum’s).  “Never mind” she said when I win the lottery or have a win at Bingo I will pay for you to have a reduction.  I wish I though.  It will never happen!!  Another laugh trying on bra’s, then I found another shop in London where I could get bra’s to fit my 34HH boobs.

The years had gone by and after children, that’s the size they ended up.

Unfortunately, my mum died in March 2007, leaving a house to sell.

That’s when I had a thought.  My mum’s wish could come true – although not a win on the lottery or bingo – I could have it done!

A friend gave me Mr. Sood’s business card.  All I had to do……

Eventually I rang his office and a chat and that was it, 27th August 2008, at the Hartswood Hospital, Brentwood.

God I was so nervous, even more when I had to get undressed in front of Mr. Sood (although he had seen many of them many times before).  I felt at ease and extremely comfortable with his honest and sincere opinion.

After another consultation about 8 weeks later and losing my weight, I had done it…booked an appointment with Mr. Sood’s secretary the following day for 4th November 2008.

3rd November 2008

I was extremely excited…no more large breasts!

4th November 2008 – Day of Operation

My partner took me to the hospital.

I was eager to get into theatre to have the op, I had no reservations at all.

I was booked in and taken to my room.  The staff were all really helpful and made me at home.

Mr. Sood came to see me and we had our final chat.  I was still not nervous, I was in good hands.

The time went slowly while I was waiting for my slot – then they came to take me to theatre and I couldn’t wait!

The anaesthetist was great and like he said I wouldn’t feel a thing.

Back in my room after the operation I was very tired, but I rang home.

5th November 2009

I had a restful night and had a bite to eat for breakfast.  I had no pain, I just felt restricted with the drains.

I had a good recovery and three days later I was at home.

As I had a slight problem with the T-junction scar I had to go back to the hospital weekly, although the aftercare I received with Mr. Sood's Cosmetic Nurse, Kathy, was second to none.  She was amazing, and extremely lovely lady.

I wore my support bra’s day and night for about eight weeks, then off I went to get news bra’s at a 36DD.

My life and my wardrobe have completely changed.  On holiday in April this year was great.  I could walk to the pool, get drinks and do anything I wanted to do in a bikini top not a baggy old t-shirt.

I have so much more confidence in myself and with what I wear.

12th May 2009

My partner has asked to use one of my old bra’s to do a parachute jump next week – but they have gone – all of them – burnt forever.

Thank you so much Mr. Sood, Kathy and all your staff in the office – you are my knights in shining armour!

And of course to my Mum - It’s just a shame that you are not here to share happiness, but

Thank You.
